Birds

The transition from cattle lands to secondary forests in the Bachué Nature Reserve can be seen not only in its evident increase in vegetation cover but also in the birds that inhabit it. During the expeditions of the flora and fauna characterization project, more than 100 species of birds have been recorded, with several rare species, species under threat categories, and high-predator species with high food and spatial requirements. Colombia is the country with the highest number of bird species in the world, and Cali is the municipality with the highest number of bird species in Colombia. The richness found so far in Bachué Natural Reserve not only well represents the huge diversity of this area of the country, but also demonstrates that the restoration processes in this area over the last 30 years have been successful.
